A friend of mine asked me. Now I’m asking you. Who do you think is going to win the M24 Fleet during Charleston Race Week 2009?
I took a quick look at the scratch sheet and rattled off the following list…
- Scott Nixon
- Agryle Campbell (with Andy Burdick on board)
- Simon Strauss
- John Kolius
- David Dabney
- Kristen Lane
- John Hamilton
- David O’Rielly
Just as soon as I’d finished, I wanted to start making adjustments. Shouldn’t O’Rielly be higher? He just punched the lights out at the St. Pete NOODs. What about local ace Steve Kopf (with Michael Miller on board)? Isn’t Dabney, a two-time All American who took 2nd in the Corinthian Division at 2008 North Americans — his first regatta in an M24 — ready? He has a top-notch crew and has looked fast in local practice sessions.
Did anyone bring in gunslingers? Guy Mossman proved in St. Pete that he can put the boat in the right place with his new boat and new crew.
What about the names on the list I don’t recognize? Are “Party Girl” and “OPB” going to prance to the front row? I have no idea.
So, I ask you again, who’s going to win, place and show at CRW? Click the comment button to enter your own list.
On Facebook, I got a couple predictions.
1. Henry McCray said his money (all of $5) was on David O’Rielly.
2. Reid Collins picked me for a top 5 finish. But that’s not going to happen since I’m not racing. I have a commitment / conflict on Saturday.
